Things to do in Los Angeles
Hollywood Movie Experience
Los Angeles has become synonymous with the film industry. Hollywood is home to many of the world’s most renowned and loved movie companies – Universal Studios, Warner Brothers and Paramount Pictures. This is the place where the magic happens, you never know when an A-list actor, hot shot movie producer or acclaimed film director might walk past you in the street. After all, many successful movie pitches and casting negotiations still take place in L.A.’s fabulous cafes and restaurants.
You can take a guided tour of any of the major film studios and see some of the awe-inspiring sets and props that were used to make some of your favourite motion pictures. Or, why not head up to the Hollywood sign to enjoy sensational views of the city?
LA Museums and Galleries
Once you’ve had your fill of movie stars, you can explore the vast multitude of museums and art galleries that Los Angeles has to offer. There are over 800 in the greater L.A. County area.
With virtually every taste catered for, some of the most famous Los Angeles museums are The Getty Centre (home of the Arii Matamoe painting), The Museum of Contemporary Art and the USS Battleship Iowa (for all of you military buffs out there). The Los Angeles Museum of Natural History is also home to one of the world’s most up to date dinosaur exhibitions which includes three Tyrannosaurus rex skeletons (showing how the king of the dinosaurs grew over time), a Triceratops, Stegosaurus and a gigantic Mamenchisaurus which measures 68 feet in length, making it one of the biggest dinosaur skeletons on display in the world!
Los Angeles Sports Teams
No matter what your favourite sport is, L.A. has an iconic team which plays in a fantastic stadium. If you want to experience the great American national pastime that is baseball for yourself, then check out the LA Dodgers in Dodger Stadium.
If you prefer the NFL then the Los Angeles Rams play most of their games in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. If NBA basketball is your thing, then head on down to the Staples Center and check out a Lakers game. For an altogether more familiar, yet thoroughly American sports experience, be sure to go see the LA Galaxy play a Major League Soccer game at the StubHub Center. The league features a host of seasoned pros from around the world, as well as some exciting homegrown talents.
The LA Music Scene
For an education in the history of modern music, there aren’t many places better than Los Angeles. After all, this is the creative climate that gave us The Doors, Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Rage Against the Machine and The Red Hot Chili Peppers, as well as many other rock and roll legends. The city was also home to fabled beat poets, Charles Bukowski and Tom Waits, making LA a cooler than cool, eclectic mix of musical influences that permeates throughout the city to this day.
