Overview
Discover Las Vegas

Unpretentious and unapologetically over the top. Whatever you imagine Vegas to be, it is ten times that, with jaw dropping experiences and activities. From the four mile long Strip with its reconstructed Pyramids and skylines of New York and Paris to its lavish hotels and casinos and fabulous street shows, there’s nowhere quite like Vegas. The fact that it’s built in the middle of the Mojave Desert makes it all the more extraordinary for the over 35 million people who visit Vegas each year.

Things to do in Las Vegas

The Grand Canyon

Arguably, America’s greatest natural wonder, the Grand Canyon, is an awesome sight to behold. It’s 277 miles long, over a mile deep, and with a maximum width of 18 miles. The canyon is open for visitors all year round (weather permitting, of course), attracting an average of 5 million tourists each year. There are many ways to enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the Grand Canyon, including by bus, by horse or by foot (camping with an experienced guide is recommended for that one).

Exploring Natural Attractions

Only ten miles west of the city of Las Vegas lies the fabled Red Rock Canyon and its beautiful, natural scenery. This unspoiled region makes for a lovely distraction from the hustle and bustle of the city. The Valley of Fire State Park is another striking natural attraction of the Nevada desert. Here you will see amazing red sandstone rock formations which are over 150 million years old, dating back to the late Jurassic period. Complementing the rocks’ natural beauty is the cave art of the Anasazi people, some of which dates back to more than a thousand years ago.

Visiting the Hoover Dam

Sometimes known as ‘Boulder Dam’, Hoover Dam is a huge man-made megastructure located on the Colorado-Nevada border which is used to prevent flooding, control irrigation water and generate hydroelectric power. Construction of the dam began in 1931 and took five years to complete. Standing over 700 feet tall and more than 1,200 feet long, it was easily the largest concrete structure built at the time of completion in 1936. Hoover Dam now welcomes upward of a million tourists each year, making it one of Nevada’s top attractions.

Walk the Las Vegas Strip

One of the most recognisable sights in America, the iconic Las Vegas Strip, is the place to be for some serious fun. The Strip’s famous skyline is a veritable cultural melting pot, drawing influences from everything from the pyramids of Egypt to Paris’ Eiffel Tower to create a vision that almost defies belief. If you’re looking for some cool places to stay in Las Vegas, then this is where it’s at. The Strip proudly boasts 18 of the world’s 21 biggest hotels, including the fabulous Luxor Hotel.

Hit the Famous Casinos

What would Vegas be without its amazing menagerie of world class casinos? If gambling is on your Las Vegas holiday agenda, then this is the high roller promise land. Known as the gambling capital of the world, Las Vegas casinos are renowned for their slick attention to detail, with all of the major ones adhering to a specific theme. So whether you’re looking for some ancient Egyptian upholstery or Texas style holdem, the casinos of the Vegas Strip are bound to have a style that you’ll feel comfortable in as you try your luck in a casual poker tourney or a high stakes game of craps.

Las Vegas FAQ

  • When is the best time to visit Las Vegas?

To escape the desert heat, the best time to visit Las Vegas is between March and May and September to November. Las Vegas weather during these times warms up enough for the famous pool parties and cools off nicely in the evening.

  • How many days should I spend in Las Vegas?

It depends on the type of Las Vegas holiday you’re looking for. If you simply want to stay in the city and head out to one or two nearby landmarks, then four days is enough. But if you want to truly explore the Nevada desert and take in all Vegas has to offer, you’ll need at least one week.

  • What is the best way to travel around Las Vegas?

Luckily, most of the night-time activities are within walking distance, making getting around easy. The Las Vegas Monorail can take you along the Las Vegas Strip in 15 minutes. But if you’re planning to head out into the desert, renting a car and taking a road trip is in order. Alternatively, there are loads of escorted tours along the way.

Las Vegas - Las Vegas is famous for its pool parties but make sure you pick the right one for you! Different day clubs and pools play different music. Prefer top 40 and hip-hop? The Marquee at The Cosmopolitan or Liquid Pool & Lounge at ARIA Hotel & Casino are the spots for you. Or are you more into house or electronic? IN that case check out Tao Beach at The Venetian or Wet Republic at MGM Grand.

Las Vegas - Get the monorail down to Fremont Street at night and experience old Vegas. Its home to some of Vegas old casinos, wedding chapels, and the famous Vegas Vic and Vegas Vicky neon cowboy and cowgirl signs. Fremont Street has some lively bars where food and drink is cheaper than the strip. It has plenty of street performers and buskers and it is a great place to people watch. A nice alternative to the big shows, clubs and casinos of the strip.
